Level M is Becoming Ambient

Level M is now Ambient
We're thrilled to announce that Level M is now Ambient following ASSA ABLOY’s acquisition of our Level Lock business. Level Home, Inc., the parent company of the Level Lock and Level M business units, will change its name to Ambient Property Technologies and continue forward as an independent entity with the singular mission of delivering our next-gen platform to multifamily customers.
Ambient combines a decade of operational experience with Level's design and engineering prowess to improve apartment living and management in the most impactful, cost-effective way possible.
The name "Ambient" embodies our vision to create a category-defining platform that seamlessly integrates technology into the built environment and transforms the way people live, visit, and work in multifamily communities. We’re excited about this new chapter and the opportunity it brings to continue innovating for our customers.

The Evolution of Ambient

Our roots date back to 2014 with the founding of Dwelo. At a time when smart home experiences were primarily designed for single-family homes, Dwelo pioneered the industry’s first smart apartment platform. Dwelo was founded on a simple yet powerful belief: technology benefits available to single-family homes should also be accessible to those who own, manage, and live in apartments.
In 2021, Level acquired Dwelo, bringing two innovative companies together with an ambitious goal: to build a next-generation platform for every market-rate apartment in the U.S. Together we revolutionized how connectivity is delivered and set a new standard for consumer-grade experiences in every type of apartment building.
Over the last three years, we’ve continuously evolved our multifamily offering but our focus remains the same: increasing the value of multifamily properties by making them more efficient to operate and more comfortable to live in.
Today, we move forward as Ambient with the same dedication to our customers’ needs.

Q&A with Ambient CEO Mike Rovito

Mike Rovito has been leading the charge on smart apartments since 2016 when he became CEO of Dwelo. Returning to an exclusive focus on multifamily, he sets the stage for the next chapter in our evolution:

Why change the name of the business now?

Mike: I believe that changing our name drives clarity around what we do and who we serve — we are a platform business exclusively serving multifamily. Becoming Ambient signifies this new milestone in the evolution of our company.

Why did the name “Ambient” resonate with us?

Mike: We chose “Ambient” because it perfectly captures our vision for our role in the industry: a category-defining platform that seamlessly bridges physical and digital worlds to transform the current experience of living, visiting, and working in a multifamily community.
The dictionary defines ambient technology as “technologies that integrate into our surroundings to improve our lives.” This definition aptly reflects our team’s quiet dedication to multifamily. We are where we are today not because we were the loudest or the largest, but because we quietly worked to address the unique challenges facing owners and operators when others were merely repurposing and marketing technologies designed for single-family homes.

What does the name change mean for existing customers?

Mike: There are no changes to service for existing customers — including those on Level as well as those who use the legacy Dwelo version of our product.
In the coming months, we’ll work closely with residents and staff at Level communities to upgrade users to a new app dedicated to multifamily. This new app will reflect the latest updates moving forward and use the same credentials as the Level app today.

What does the future hold for Ambient?

Mike: I firmly believe that our relationships with customers, partners, and employees are critical to our success now and in the future.
  • For customers: This milestone signifies our dedication to continuously incorporating feedback, adapting to evolving needs, and delivering industry-leading products that improve the day-to-day experience of owning, working at, and living in a multifamily community.
  • For partners: This next chapter marks an opportunity to establish and deepen partnerships with other leading technology and channel partners, which will aid us in continuing to deliver a platform that uniquely addresses the needs of multifamily.
  • For employees: Undoubtedly, Ambient employees are integral to our success. With this rename, we commit our unwavering focus and dedication to providing a great place to work and collaborating to reliably solve current and future challenges.
